UC-11, UC-6 reach KE League semis

All teams receiving match bonuses to encourage revival of football in Lyari.

The battle for the K-Electric (KE) Lyari U16 Football League junior championship title intensified on Friday, as the boys from Union Council (UC)-6 and UC-11 booked their places in the semi-final of the event being held in Karachi.


UC-6 defeated their opponents UC-10 from Chakiwara 1-0 in a close competition at the Peoples’ Stadium on Friday.

Fateh Muhammad scored the winner in the eighth minute of the match, while Muhammad Tahir of the winning team was declared player of the match.

Meanwhile, in another quarter-final, UC-11 overcame UC-5 of Baghdadi Colony 4-2 in a high scoring match.

UC-11’s Asmatullah scored the opening goal in the 22nd minute of the match. However, UC-5 equalised four minutes later with a goal from Muhammad Shahzaib.

UC-11’s Mohammad Sami helped his team regain the lead in the 30th minute, but UC-5 again equalised the score with Karam Hussain’s brilliant strike eight minutes later.

UC-11 bounced back in the match and assured their dominance in the second half as Akbar Rehman scored in the 54th minute and Azhar Ali sealed the win in the 67th minute.

In today’s fixtures, Lyari town, who defeated UC-2 4-0 in the quarters, will take on UC-7, whereas UC-6 will play UC-11 in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, according to a tournament official, the teams are receiving match bonuses. Each winning side bags Rs7,000 in every match, while the losers get Rs3,000.
