KARACHI:

The president of Sindh Lady Health Workers Association, Karachi Division president, Naseem Muneer Shaikh, was shot dead by her husband, within the limits of the Sachal police station, late Wednesday night.

Naseem’s husband, Muneer Shaikh, shot her four times after a domestic altercation between them. Shaikh managed to escape after killing Naseem. An FIR was lodged against him by his son, Shahid Hussain Shaikh, at the Sachal police station on Thursday morning.

Naseem was a supervisor and was posted in Landhi. She left behind three children, including a 10-year-old daughter, Ayesha.

The lady health workers (LHWs) suspended the measles drive for a while in some areas when news of Naseem’s death reached them. Several LHWs also rushed to her house that was located in Jahangirabad.

The motive?

Family sources said that Muneer and Naseem had a love marriage nearly 21 years ago. It was also learnt that such disputes were a routine between the couple. Police are investigating whether it was a property dispute or had Muneer shot his wife over suspicion of her having an extramarital affair.

One of the main reasons for the altercations between the couple was her late job timings, disclosed a close friend of Naseem. She told The Express Tribune that Muneer was unemployed and all properties owned by the two, including two houses and three plots, were in Naseem’s name. “All the property that they had was made by Naseem with her own earnings,” she said. “She was so hard working. She was a good leader and a loving mother.”
