Framing charges: Suspects in Hamza murder case could not be indicted

Due to the absence of the defence counsel, the suspects facing the Hamza murder trial could not be indicted on Thursday.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) set June 4 as the date to frame charges against the suspects. Hamza Ahmed, a 17-year-old student, was gunned down allegedly by the security guard of another teenager, Shoaib Naveed, after they got into a heated argument outside a restaurant in DHA on April 27, 2013.
According to the prosecution, Naveed met Ahmed outside the restaurant to settle a dispute but their discussion became heated, and Ahmed allegedly slapped Naveed. Naveed’s security guard, Ammal Rehman, reacted violently and allegedly shot Ahmed dead. Rehman is still on the run.
The police have declared Naveed and the two drivers, Idrees and Mushtaq, as ‘harbouring offenders’ in the reinvestigation report submitted before the court, adding that they were unable to determine the role of Naveed’s father in the case. All of them have earlier been released on bail.
At a previous hearing, the ATC-III had supplied copies to the suspect under section 265-C (supply of statements and documents to accused) of the Criminal Procedure Code and adjourned the case till next the hearing for indictment. The court once again adjourned the case till June 4.
