Senate elections: PPP's Taj Haider likely to be elected unopposed

Pakistan Peoples Party leader and provincial secretary-general Taj Haider is likely to be elected unopposed to the Senate on the seat vacated by Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. The Senate election is scheduled for June 5.
Sources in the PPP told The Express Tribune that the party has decided to allot the technocrat seat to Haider.
According to the schedule issued by the election commission, Wednesday was the first day to submit nomination papers and Haider was the only candidate who turned up for it.
The provincial election commissioner, SM Tarqi Qadri, said that May 22 was the last date to submit nomination forms and if no anyone turned up, Taj Haider will be elected unopposed.
