Line of fire: Six people shot dead allegedly in different encounters across the city
Two extortionists and a political party worker arrested.

The police claimed to have killed four alleged gang members and two criminals in separate encounters in different parts of the city on Wednesday. Meanwhile, two extortionists and a political worker were also apprehended in separate raids.
The encounters
Two alleged gang members were killed while two others managed to escape during an encounter with the police in Mirchi Wali Gali within the limits of Kharadar police station. The authorities said that the encounter took place when the police were carrying out a routine patrol in the area. When the suspects saw the police, they opened fire at them and tried to escape. The police fired back in retaliation and killed two of the men. They claim to have seized two hand grenades, two pistols and eight SIM cards.
The deceased were identified as Nadeem alias Lamba and Abdul Rehman alias Bubble. DSP Zahid Hussain said that the deceased were associated with the Sheraz Comrade Group and were involved in various murders, attempted murders, kidnapping and extortion cases. A case was registered against them while further investigation is being carried out.
In an encounter near Lyari Expressway, two alleged gang members were killed by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC). According to the cell officials, the encounter took place when AVCC personnel tried to intercept two suspects on the expressway. The men tried to escape but were injured in firing. They were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi, where both of them succumbed to injuries.
The deceased were identified as Nizamuddin and Muhammad Ali alias Babu. Officials claim both men were gang members and were involved in nine cases of bank robberies and murders.
In Surjani Town, two alleged criminals were killed in an encounter with law enforcers. DSP Shaukat Shahani said that the two unidentified men had arrived at the mobile market in KDA Flats in Surjani and had started to create trouble when shopkeepers intervened and tried to stop them. The officer said that the police and Rangers reached the scene of crime and arrested both the men in an injured condition after an exchange of fire. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but died on the way.
Arrests and raids
An alleged extortionist, Danish, was arrested by Rizvia police and Citizens Police Liaison Committee, when the accused arrived to collect extortion money from a shop owner. SHO Mazhar Iqbal said that the accused had demanded Rs300,000 from an individual identified as Hafiz Mansoor Ahmed who used to run a shop in Urdu Bazaar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Ahmed was warned with dire consequences if he failed to pay the money.
Another alleged extortionist was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit during a raid in Shershah. Officials claimed that the accused had demanded Rs30 million from a trader. They added that they seized a weapon and a cell phone from him as well.
In Landhi, the worker of a political party was arrested in a raid conducted by the Rangers. They claimed the accused was wanted in several criminal cases. He was taken to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
Gunned down
The owner of a fast food restaurant was shot dead in Block-16, Federal B Area within the limits of the Yousuf Plaza police station. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Shaikh Tariq. The police said that he was on his way to the restaurant from his house on a motorcycle when unidentified men shot at him. SHO Irfan said that the motive behind the killing has yet to be ascertained. He added that that it could have been a mugging incident.
Ali Raza, 23, was found dead by Pak Colony police, who said the deceased was a labourer and was strangled to death. The body was taken to Civil hospital for an autopsy.
