CSR collaboration: Clean water to be made available

Metro’s Cash and Carry announced that it is joining Procter and Gamble (P&G) in its efforts for the Pakistan Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Programme to provide clean drinking water to the country’s communities.


The programme is meant to reach out to communities affected by natural disasters, including Tharparkar. This collaboration is part of both the companies’ corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Through this joint effort, 24 million litres of clean drinking water will be made available through the P&G water purification packets. This is enough to provide 400,000 people water for a month. HOPE, P&G’s long-term NGO partner, will distribute purification packets to people affected by the recent Tharparkar crisis.


“Clean drinking water is a problem for more than a billion people around the globe. Diarrhea caused by drinking contaminated water is a leading cause of illness and death amongst infants and children in the developing world including Pakistan,” said P&G Pakistan Country Manager Faisal Sabzwari.

Through this programme we have made nearly 800 million litres of clean drinking water available to Pakistani communities since 2005, and the numbers will now only grow, added Sabzwari.

Sharing his thoughts, Metro Cash & Carry Pakistan Managing Director Bouzeneth Benaouda said that both companies are socially aware and work individually and in collaboration for such purposes. “METRO is proud to be associated with P&G and its Children’s Safe Drinking Water Programme,” he said.
