Assets abroad: LHC summons 26 politicians including PM Nawaz
Zardari, Imran Khan, Shahbaz Sharif and Bilawal also summoned in a multi-billion dollar case.
LAHORE:
In a case seeking court’s directive for politicians to bring their foreign assets back to Pakistan, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned 26 politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Express News reported.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri, who filed the petition, claimed that these politicians caused a huge loss to the national exchequer by transferring at least $200 billion to foreign countries through money laundering.
The list of politicians summoned includes former president Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan, PTI Vice Chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan Peoples Party Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
On May 9, LHC had issued notices to federal government and at least 64 politicians for not submitting their affidavits about alleged money laundering. A few of the politicians claimed that they have not received the notices as yet. In light of this, the court today decided to issue a public notice in this regard.
After issuing the order, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan adjourned the hearing till June 16.
