KARACHI:

The national team’s ongoing summer camp has begun to take its toll on players, as many of them are feeling the heat of the arduous training due to the tough methods adopted by camp commandant Mohammad Akram.

Umar Akmal has not been a part of the training drills and has only been limited to work in the gymnasium due to a calf strain, while Taufeeq Umar and Shahid Afridi have backache complains.

Despite the niggling injuries, the camp continues to run in full swing, with team-building practices also being adopted to keep the cricketers engaged.

However, one of the players said that it was tough to undergo such training methods on a daily basis.

“It’s probably one of the hardest training camps I’ve ever attended in my long career, both domestically and internationally,” the player told The Express Tribune.

“We’ve been stretched to our limits and it is only the will-power that’s helping us to remain focused on the task of achieving top fitness levels.”

Meanwhile, most of the players are also distracted with the ever-changing managerial developments in the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“The recent developments are disturbing for all of us,” said another player. “We don’t know who will be the chairman and what will the future hold for us.”
