PESHAWAR:

Newly-appointed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Mehtab Abbasi said he will bring revolutionary changes for the people of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) by introducing a fresh policy on sensitising stakeholders – specifically the federal capital – on the situation in the region.

While speaking to the media at a gathering at the Governor House recently, Abbasi said he will focus on issues such as law and order, education and health. In specific, the governor said, he wants to improve the economy of the region, as industry has completely collapsed and people have stopped investing in the tribal areas due to the on-going war.

Speaking of the lack of communication sources in Fata, Abbasi said radio must be used as an important tool, since it is the only source of information for many residents of the region. The governor was informed that radio stations are present in Fata, but not utilised due to the tense law and order situation. Abbasi replied radio programmes could be transmitted from the settled areas.

The governor also cited extortion as a major problem and stated the government will invest money wherever they could to tackle the issue.
