Indian elections: AJK groups protest crackdown during polls
Say elections are not a substitute for the right to self-determination.
MUZAFFARABAD:
The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) on Friday staged a protest demonstration in front of Central Press Club here against the post-Indian elections “reign of terror” launched by Indian forces and other security agencies in Indian Kashmir.
The protest demonstration was led by senior JKPL and All Parties Hurriayat Conference Geelani (APHC-G) leader Engineer Mushtaq Mahmood.
The protest was also attended by Passban-e-Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ghazali and Jammu and Kashmir International Forum for Justice and Human Rights (IFJHR) Chairman Nisar Ahmad Khan.
The demonstrators were holding placards inscribed with the slogans such as, “Stop arrest of youth” and “Implement UN resolutions on Kashmir dispute to bring peace in South Asia”.
JKP leader Muhstaq Mahmood said India has confiscated the house of their ailing 75-year-old leader Khan Muhammad Sopori in Srinagar, adding it is a huge human rights violation to deprive a man of his home.
The other speakers appreciated the people of Indian Kashmir for boycotting the recently-held elections and proving to the world that elections are not a substitute for the right to self-determination.
