Iranian border guards trespassed three kilometres inside Pakistani territory and shot dead a Pakistani citizen while injuring another in the Prom tehsil of Panjgur district in Balochistan on Friday.

“Iranian border guards have killed a man, identified as Abdul Wahid Dost Mohammed, while his brother Sidaq Dost Mohammed is reportedly injured,” an official of Balochistan Levies told The Express Tribune. The incident took place in Naukor near Gazbazdan area in Tehsil Prom, an area three kilometres inside Pakistan from Iran. Prom is a remote town in Panjgur which shares a border with Iran.

The victims were said to be residents of the border area. “Iranian border guards often violate the Pakistani border. Such instances have increased during the past few months,” a senior official said on the condition of anonymity.

The body and the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Panjgur where the injured is said to be in critical condition. “The victims were labourers and said to be residents of the Prom tehsil,” hospital sources have said.

Earlier, Iran, on many counts, has threatened to send forces into Pakistani territories. The recent was to free five border guards believed to have been kidnapped by militants.
