LAHORE:

An elderly man accused of blasphemy was shot dead by a teenager inside a police lockup in Sheikhupura district on Friday, police officials said.

According to them, 14-year-old Muhammad Saleem entered the Sharaqpur police station and shot prisoner Khalil Ahmed after seeking permission to visit him from the authorities present. The prisoner died on the spot. Saleem was reportedly wearing a police uniform in order to gain entry to the police station. Police have registered a case against Saleem and have confined him at the same lockup.

Khalil, who belongs to the Ahmadiyya community, had been in police custody since May 13 after an FIR was registered against him for allegedly committing blasphemy.
