KARACHI:
The police finally produced the key suspect, Salman Abro, before an anti-terrorism court on Friday for his alleged involvement in Sulaiman Lashari's murder.
The anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent Salman and the four police constables — Imran Ali, Yasin Jamali, Rashid and Maqbool — on physical custody remand for their alleged involvement in the 18-year-old's murder till May 22.
According to the police, Salman along with five police guards of his father arrived at the Lashari's house and opened fire at him. Sulaiman died on the spot. The Lashari guards also retaliated and one of them, Ghulam Ali, shot at Salman and a police guard, Zaheer Ahmed, who died. Salman was critically injured.
When the case was taken up on Friday, Salman was brought to the court premises in an ambulance. He was wearing a patient's gown and lying on a stretcher. District public prosecutor Abdul Maroof submitted an application under section 21-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, seeking protection for the victim's family. He requested the court to provide protection to the father of the deceased as he claimed that he was being threatened. The court, however, directed the applicant to seek help from the relevant SP and approach the court if the police fail to do anything.
Maroof requested the court grant remand for the suspects till June 9 as a joint investigation team was being constituted. The case will be taken up on May 23.
