Road safety: No more unfit public transport in AJK
The campaign aims at protecting lives of passengers.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Traffic Police launched an operation in the region on Tuesday to seize old vehicles lacking fitness certificates. As a result, over 248 unfit buses and small vans in various districts of AJK have been confiscated.
Senior Superintendent (SSP) of Traffic Police Chaudhry Sajjad told The Express Tribune that the operation was launched to protect the lives of passengers, adding that old vehicles were the main cause of road accidents across the state.
“On Tuesday, 41 old vehicles were held in Muzaffarabad, 15 in Neelum, 45 in Rawalakot, 22 in Sudhanati , 29 in Kotli, 21 in Bagh, 16 in Hattain Bala , 25 in Bhimber and 32 outdated vans were taken into traffic police custody in Mirpur,” elaborated Sajjad. The 248 seized vehicles were operating on different routes in AJK without obtaining fitness certificates from the AJK Traffic Department, he added.
Sajjad also warned that the AJK traffic police would take stern action against drivers without valid licenses. The police will also seize non custom-paid and smuggled vehicles which are operating in the limits of AJK.
