After Imran, Khursheed Shah demands resignation of ECP members
Opposition leader says ECP members should have resigned when their chief Fakhruddin G Ebrahim vacated his post in 2013
ISLAMABAD:
Following in the footsteps of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairperson Imran Khan, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday demanded the resignation of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members, Express News reported.
The election body had come under fire on various occasions for what critics call its ineffective role during the May 11 elections last year.
Recently during a massive rally in Islamabad, Imran had made similar demands calling for the constitution of a new election commission.
“The current body is not an election commission but a selection commission,” he had said.
Today, Shah said that the ECP members should have resigned when their chief Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim vacated his post in July 2013. Ebrahim, one of the country’s most respected jurists, oversaw the 2013 general elections of Pakistan.
“The whole nation and not just Imran desires the overhaul of Pakistan’s electoral system,” Shah added.
