Improving Infrastructure: Irrigation programme extended till 2017

It was earlier scheduled to conclude by February 2015.

HYDERABAD:
The irrigation system reforms programme, funded by the World Bank and being implemented by the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Sida), has been extended for two years with an additional financing of $130 million. According to Sida’s press statement, the project will now last till February 2017, with 75% debt-financing from the World Bank and 25% from the Sindh government. It was earlier scheduled to conclude by February 2015. Sida’s flagship Water Sector Improvement Project, approved in 2007 with a funding of $175 million, undertook rehabilitation and construction works of the water channels and distributaries. It was also tasked with establishing farmers’ organisations to help regulate the irrigation system and consult over engineering works.
