Karachi Incident Anniversary: In Pindi, lawyers observe black day
Protesting lawyers demanded foolproof security for judges and lawyers.
RAWALPINDI:
Lawyers observed a black day and boycotted courts across Rawalpindi on Monday to mark the killing of over 50 people including lawyers in Karachi on May 12, 2007. Lawyers wearing black armbands observed a full-day strike on a call given by the Pakistan Bar Council and stayed away from court proceedings to express solidarity with families of slain lawyers. All courts gave a deserted look as no proceedings could take place in courtrooms or chambers. The lawyers also held memorial references and hoisted black flags at bar rooms to condemn the incident. They also passed resolutions condemning the incident and demanding the arrest of the perpetrators. They also demanded foolproof security for judges and lawyers.
