Deadly tide: Schoolteacher drowns in Kabul River

The body was not recovered at the time and police are still searching for the victim at the filing of this report.

A senior schoolteacher reportedly drowned in the Kabul River in Nowshera after falling from a chairlift on Monday morning.



According to Maher Ali, an official of Nowshera Kalan police, the incident occurred around 7am. Saifullah, a senior teacher at Government High School for Boys in Pir Sabaq and a resident of Pabbi, took the chairlift to work every day.


The man operating the lift told the police Saifullah asked for a ride to the other side of the river so he could get to school. It was raining heavily at this time, added police official Maher. When the victim’s chairlift made it half way, his foot slipped and Saifullah fell into the river.


However, the body was not recovered at the time and police were still searching for the victim at the filing of this report.
