KARACHI:

With the aim of integrating data collection, processing and reporting to improve health services, the Dow University of Heath Sciences (DUHS) inaugurated the Diabetes and Endocrine Health Management Information System at its National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (NIDE) on Saturday.

The newly introduced system hopes to save time through effective management of patients' data at all levels. The data of the patients will be used for research purposes and for making better health policies.

Establishing the system in collaboration with healthcare company PharmEvo, the DUHS aims to incorporate all the patient and hospital data with the help of information processing tools. The computer systems used are based on different hardware platforms and software products.

The director of the Hussain Ebrahim Jamal research institute of chemistry at the Karachi University, Prof Dr M Iqbal Chaudhry, inaugurated the information system ceremony along with DUHS vice-chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, NIDE director Dr Akhter Ali Baloch, NIDE deputy director Dr Fareeduddin and other faculty staff.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Chaudhry claimed that Pakistan ranks fourth among the most disease-burdened countries. The information system will help develop statistical data of patients that may be useful for students while conducting research, he added. Later, Chaudhry was presented the DUHS memento by Prof Masood Hameed Khan.
