No progress: Protest against police inaction

The demonstrators burnt old tyres and chanted slogans against the police.

Over two dozen people from Nishatabad on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against the police for not being able to find a kidnapped child.


The protesters gathered at Sargodha Road and blocked it for traffic.

Naseem Anwar, one of the protestors, told newsmen that 13-year-old Sawaira was abducted from Nishatabad about eight months ago.

He said a complaint had been filed with the police but so far, there had no been no progress on the investigation. He said the police was demanding bribe from them. He said when they refused, police officials also threatened them. The demonstrators burnt old tyres and chanted slogans against the police. On receipt of information, Inspector Ghulam Fareed, a representative of the City Police Officer (CPO), reached the scene and pacified the protestors by assuring them that action would be taken against the police officers who had responsible failed to recover the girl.

On this assurance, the demonstrators called off their protest and dispersed peacefully.
