In Supreme Court: Application moved against Geo TV
Applicants request court to advise Pemra to summon Mir Shakil, Hamid Mir, Amir Mir and others.
ISLAMABAD:
An application against Geo TV, its chief executive Mir Shakilur Rehman and others has been filed in the Supreme Court. In the application, petitioners Advocate Ali Imran and Munir Sadiq pleaded that after the attack on Hamid Mir, Geo TV, Aamir Mir, Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Khawaja Asif and others tried to malign an important security agency of the country. They noted that the ministry of defence filed application against Geo TV before the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) but the government was trying to influence the matter and preventing the media watchdog from making independent decisions. The applicants requested the court to advise Pemra to take an independent decision, summon Mir Shakil, Hamid Mir, Amir Mir and others, and ask them to explain their actions which were aimed at tarnishing the image of a security agency.
