“We will invite all parties in Gilgit to discuss the ways in which we can improve the existing constitutional package that empowered the region and improved the quality of the peoples’ lives,” said Mehdi Shah on Sunday at the launching ceremony of a national Urdu daily, ‘Ausaf’, which started its edition from Gilgit-Baltistan with a resident editor based in Gilgit.
Highlighting PPP’s commitment to empower the people of Gilgit, he said that recommendations unanimously adopted by all parties will then be forwarded to the president for incorporating them into the existing self-rule package.
Referring to opposition parties’ criticism on the constitutional package, Shah said that it was easy to criticise everything, adding that criticism should be constructive.
“I will not be the last chief minister under this package. Whosoever will hold this office in the future will also benefit from this exercise,” he said.
Urging the media to avoid spreading pessimism, he said that although the people of the region had steadfastly supported the Kashmir cause, they had been let down time and again by the Kashmiri leadership.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mehdi Shah inaugurated the membership campaign of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Gilgit.
He was accompanied by Fauzia Habib, the assistant political secretary to the president.
