Laid Off : Unemployed man kills himself
A resident of Chak 198-RB told that his son had been working at a power loom factory which had shut down.
FAISALABAD:
A power loom worker laid off a month and a half ago committed suicide on Wednesday. Anwaar Ahmad, a resident of Chak 198-RB, told media people that his son Shahid, 35, had been working at a power loom factory which had shut down a couple of weeks ago due to load shedding. “I am disabled and Shahid was the sole bread earner for our family,” Ahmad said. After he became jobless, Shahid tried really hard to find a job elsewhere but in vain. “We started facing severe financial constraints and were close to starving,” he said. Shahid took poison on Wednesday and killed himself, said Ahmad. He was taken to the DHQ hospital where he died two hours later. Ahmad is paralysed in a leg and an arm. He said that Shahid had approached public representatives as well as local politicians in his search for a job but had been turned away by all.
