KARACHI:

Pakistan’s Farhan Zaman crashed out of the semi-final of the Mohammed Yaquob Hajeyah $15,000 PSA Squash Tournament after losing out 3-0 to Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar in South Surrah, Kuwait.

The youngster had moved into the last four after a sensational victory in the quarter-finals, but failed to reproduce the magic on Wednesday as Abouelghar dominated the proceeding against him right from the start.

Although Zaman gave a poor performance in the first two games, he put up a fight in the third. However, Abouelghar sealed an emphatic victory with scores of 11-7, 11-4 and 11-9.

Zaman, currently world number 59, is chasing the target of breaking into the top 30 in the next 12 months.

He had earlier stunned Kuwait’s Abullah Al Muzayen 3-0 in their quarter-final clash against the odds. Fifth-seeded Zaman got the better of second-seed Al Muzayen, as he won without dropping a game in front of his opponent’s home crowd.

The pint-sized Zaman was too good for the left-hander magician, Al Muzayen, as he triumphed with scores of 11-7, 11-7 and 11-1.

He was given a tough run by Jordan’s Ahmad Al-Saraj in the first round of the tournament, but Zaman pipped him 3-2 in a tense affair with a scoreline of 11-3, 5-11, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-9.
