Tired of the itching and flaking that dandruff results in? Not to mention the embarrassment caused by the inevitable presence of flakes on your shirt. Dandruff is a common problem, symptoms of which often occur in people who have oily hair. Although it is not generally a serious condition, it could lead to complications such as secondary bacterial infection or fungal infection, according to rightdiagnosis.com. Other causes of dandruff are inclusive of pollution, stress, neurological disorders and hormonal fluctuations, reported the Times of India.

Perhaps the best way of addressing the problem is to opt for home totkas, which are both usually harmless and pocket friendly. We share with you six home remedies for dandruff, which we have compiled from the Times of India and Huffington Post.

Olive oil

Comprising natural clarifying properties, olive oil is ideal for alleviating dandruff. Massage your hair with it at least twice a week. For better absorption, wrap a scarf around your oiled hair before you go to sleep.

Baking soda

Believe it or not, baking soda is one of the easiest treatments for dandruff. Use it instead of your shampoo for a couple of weeks. Rub handful of baking soda on your scalp and rinse thoroughly.

Neem leaves

Boil a few neem leaves for half an hour. Crush them, make a paste and apply it on your scalp for about 40 minutes before you wash it off. You’ll be surprised to see the results.

Aloe vera

Grow an aloe vera plant in your house because it is nothing but useful. Apply aloe vera gel on your scalp for nearly 40 minutes and wash if off with your shampoo. It contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, which are great for treating dandruff.

Vinegar

This is an excellent way of keeping your scalp from becoming flaky. After using your regular shampoo, mix two cups of apple cider vinegar with two cups of cold water and rinse the shampoo from your hair with them. You can also apply white vinegar to your scalp and leave it overnight with a towel. The next day, you can wash your hair with shampoo.

Lemon juice

Massaging your scalp with lemon juice helps in limiting flakes of dandruff. Massage it on your hair and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, followed by hair wash. For maximising results, make this a part of your daily routine.
