Protest: Teachers demand release of pay, regularisation

Around 500 teaching and non-teaching daily wage staff working in different model colleges under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) staged a protest at D-Chowk on Monday, demanding regularisation of their services and issuance of salaries.
The teaching and non-teaching daily wage staffers gathered at D-Chowk in the morning and raised slogans about their longstanding issues.
Talking to APP, Ehsan Bangash, a teacher from Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) F-8/4, said daily wage staffers, serving from the last many years in model colleges, are deprived of their due right of regularisation of services as well as timely payment of salaries.
He said the Cabinet Committee has earlier notified regularisation of their services, but the authorities are reluctant to implement the decision.
Chaudhry Shaukat, from a civil society organisation joining hands with the teachers and non-teaching staff in the protest, said some daily wage staffers are serving in these colleges for the salaries ranging from Rs7,000 to Rs10,000 per month, and many have gone unpaid for months.
Fauzia Shaheen, another daily wage teacher said, “I have been teaching at a model college for the last one year without any salary”.
She said it is very difficult to continue working and bear the cost of transportation out of pocket, apart from daily expenses at home.
Capital Administration and Development Division spokesman Rafique Tahir informed that the salaries of daily wage staff would be issued by May 31, but the regularisation issue is in court and the authorities cannot pursue this matter until a verdict in the case is given.
