Blasts averted: Over 20 bombs defused in Lower Kurram

Security forces, along with officials of the Kurram Levies and bomb disposal unit (BDU) helped defuse 22 bombs in Lower Kurram Agency on Sunday.


Akbar Iftikhar, an official of the political administration from Alizai tehsil, said a search operation was launched around 9am after intelligence reports revealed militants had planted multiple low and high-intensity bombs in Dama Khwaro area of the agency near Badama check post.

Iftikhar said he rushed to the site with another official and informed Kurram Levies, and khasadar and security forces, who surrounded the area. The BDU was called in, and after scouring the site, BDU personnel shared that militants had planted around 22 bombs on the road there.

The unit safely removed the explosive devices and defused them at the bank of Kurram River nearby. The method was said to be controlled detonation.

According to BDU officials, 15 of the planted bombs were landmines, five were remote-controlled devices and two were connected to a device which was ready to blow up when it was neutralised.


Levies officials launched a search operation after the incident while security was beefed up in the area.

A case has been filed against unidentified militants.

Two injured in IED blast

Two tribesmen were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) was blown up using a remote control in Sadda, Lower Kurram Agency on Saturday.

An official of the political administration said the IED, planted on a roadside, exploded near Sadda Bazaar, injuring two tribesmen who were on their way to the market.

The official said after the explosion, heavy contingents of Kurram Levies rushed to the site and launched a search operation, however, no one was arrested.
