FAISALABAD:

A divorce dispute has led to the death of three people, including a woman, her brother and her father.

The Saddar SHO said that Saima Bibi, resident of Joiya Town Chak No.225, was married to Umair Yaqoob, resident of Tandlianwala, about eight years ago. He said the couple had a number of altercations over domestic issues. He said Bibi had filed a petition in a local court for divorce.

The SHO said on Saturday Yaqoob went to his in-laws house in Joiya Town where he had a heated argument with Bibi, and then opened fire at her. Bibi’s father Ashraf and brother Rehan came forward to save her but Yaqoob also fired at them.

Bibi and her father Ashraf died on the spot. Her brother Rehan was taken to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Yaqoob tried to flee but residents of the area overpowered him.

Investigation SSP Sahibzada Bilal Umar and Iqbal Town SP Zulfiqar Ahmad visited the scene soon after and took the bodies into custody.

The police also took Yaqoob to the police station for questioning.

The Investigation SSP said the bodies had been dispatched to a mortuary for postmortem examination and further action would be taken after receiving the medico-legal report.
