KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that the clash between institutions is unfortunate but it will end soon. The media has supported the Sindh government during the targeted operation and it should help in bringing investment to the province as well, he said.

Addressing a dinner hosted by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in honour of the office-bearers of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors and Pakistan Broadcasters Association, he said the crime rate in Sindh has dropped because of the operation in which many target killers, extortionists and terrorists have been arrested.

He said that all forces of the country should work towards forging unity and cohesion.

The chief minister said that some ‘friends’ have reservations about the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) but it should be implemented for at least three to six months so that the rate of crime can be substantially reduced.

He said that investment in Sindh is increasing and the opportunities in the province are not less than any other province.

Meanwhile, Sharjeel Memon said the government has always done everything it can to clear the dues of the print and electronic media. He appealed to the APNS and other organisations to form a committee to scrutinise dues, pointing out that one of the reasons of delay in payments is delayed billing by newspapers.

He said that the APNS demand to issue advertisements to eveningers (evening newspapers) will be fulfilled.

Hameed Haroon, Sarmad Ali, Ejazul Haque, Abdul Jabbar Khattak, Qazi Asad Abid, Muhammad Aamir, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Hamid Abidi, Ilyas Shakir, Mukhtar Aqil and others thanked the information minister for inviting them.
