Common good: Pakistan, Iran agree to enhance economic ties

The foreign secretary underlined Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen existing bonds of friendship.

Pakistan and Iran on Wednesday agreed to focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation for the common good of both nations. It was agreed during the seventh round of annual bilateral political consultations held between Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Ibrahim Rahimpour in Tehran.


Areas of bilateral cooperation including political, security, economic and culture were discussed during the talks. A foreign office spokesperson, while giving details of the talks, said the foreign secretary highlighted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a peaceful neighbourhood for economic development and prosperity of the people of the region.


The foreign secretary underlined Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen existing bonds of friendship and good neighbourly relations with Iran. Pakistan and Iran agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is vital for stability of the region.

Earlier, Aizaz Chaudhry met with the Deputy Head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. During the meeting the deputy chief appreciated the existing brotherly relations between the two neighbours. Foreign secretary underlined the need for Pakistan and Iran to continue to work together for stability, peace and development of the region.

The foreign secretary also addressed a gathering of research scholars and associates in the Iranian Institute of Political and International Studies.
