Repatriation of Afghan refugees: More still needs to be done, Mamnoon tells UNHCR

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday appreciated the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) work on repatriation of Afghan refugees but added that more still needs to be done.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release, the UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres called on the President on Wednesday.

Guterres briefed the President on UNHCR’s ongoing projects, adding that the presence of Afghan refugees in Pakistan for such a long time was the most remarkable example of hospitality.

The UNHCR chief also held talks with the Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and Additional Foreign Secretary for United Nations and Economic Coordination.

Both sides discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the repatriation and management of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
