
A new project of the Literacy and Non Formal Basic Education (LNFBE) department, launched on Monday, intends to make ten million individuals literate in three years.
LNFBE Secretary Pervez Ahmed Khan said the Literacy Movement Project would increase literacy by six per cent in the Punjab over the next three years. He said it aimed to establish 1,000 non-formal basic education centres and 500 community learning centres in 11 districts of southern Punjab. Students till grade 5 will get free education. With donor approval, the department would be able to ensure Punjab’s literacy rate reaches 80 per cent by 2018.
