Reopening Bhagat Singh’s case: ‘Police not giving me the original FIR’

Judge seeks comments from CCPO on compliance petition.

An additional district and sessions judge on Monday sought comments from the capital city police officer in a compliance petition filed by a man seeking orders for the police to provide him an attested copy of an FIR registered against Bhagat Singh.


The petitioner wants to plead Singh’s case in Lahore High Court and to establish his innocence in the SSP’s murder case.

The court on April 11 had ordered the police to provide him a copy of the FIR in question to the petitioner.

The petitioner said he had showed the police a copy of the court order but they had not give it to him.

Petitioner Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundationm, said he had filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court seeking re-opening of Bhagat Singh’s case was referred to the chief justice of the Lahore High Court for constitution of larger bench.

He said he needed an attested copy of the FIR registered against Singh, Sukh Dev and Raj Guru for allegedly killing the then SSP Lahore Saunders.

He said he had approached the concerned DSP’s Legal Affairs office located at the SSP office near district courts.

He said official had records from 1895 to 1927 but did not give him the FIR registered in 1928 when the SSP was killed.

He said special judges of tribunal handling Singh’s case awarded death sentence to him without hearing 450 witnesses of the case.

He said Singh’s lawyers were not given the opportunity of cross-questioning them.
