Creativity UMT student wins essay writing contest

A student of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) secured top position in the essay writing category of the 4th All Lahore Literary Fiesta 2014 organised by University of Engineering and Technology (UET).


A statement issued by the UMT said Ifrah Mubashir won the first position in the English essay writing contest on the topic ‘Strike…For the Green Graves of Your Sires’.


UMT Institute of Communication and Cultural Studies Director Arshad Ali Khan said Ifrah was among the top students at the university and a keep interest in literary activities.


The Lahore Literary Fiesta 2014 was attended by intellectuals, educationists, dignitaries, teachers, students and enlightened members of the general public.


The event was also attended by writers from Bangladesh, Britain, Egypt, France and India. The Environmental and Horticulture Society at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) arranged an exhibition at the UET Auditorium Complex.


Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen (r) Muhammad Akram Khan inaugurated the show. He appreciated the work displayed and announced Rs5000 cash prizes for winners.


Khan said the creative work of the students was an asset for both UET and the country.


The objective of the exhibition, he said, was to raise awareness among students regarding nature and to create a sense of belonging to it.


Institutions from across the country are participating in the exhibition, which will continue for three days.
