Healthcare: ‘CM committed to providing medical facilities to people’

Adviser says health insurance scheme launched for people in backward districts.

LAHORE: “The government has introduced a health insurance programme for people living in backward districts to provide better medical cover to the citizens, initially at four districts. This programme will improve the primary healthcare system,” said Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique on Sunday.

Rafique said the government was committed to ensuring provision of modern healthcare facilities to people.



He was addressing a function organised by Paramedical Staff Association at the Lahore General Hospital to honour Christian employees of the hospital. The event was also attended by Professor Anjum Habib Vohra, MPAs Shakeel Khokhar and Shahzad Munshi, MS Pervez Imtiaz, Yousaf Billa, Rahmat Sandhu, Rana Pervez, Arshad Butt, Ameen Salamat, Munawar Sahotra, Amanat Saghar and a large number of doctors, nurses and paramedics.

Rafique said a monitoring system had been evolved to assess medical needs of public. He said basic health units, tehsil and district headquarter hospitals were included in the programme.

He said these facilities had helped reduce burden on teaching hospitals.

Rafique appreciated efforts of the Health Education Programme at the Post Graduate Medical Institute. He said the programme was raising awareness on hygienic healthcare at hospitals.

Vohra said the hospital was proud of its Christian staff.

“Some Christian doctors and healthcare staff at the hospital have made invaluable contributions to medicine,” he said.

He said the Qainchi flyover project at Ferozpur Road should be completed as soon as possible to ease traffic flow around the hospital.

He also reflected the appointment letter to the son of a deceased employee of the LGH.
