Inspection: Secretary visits wheat procurement centres

Home Department Special Secretary Shoaib Akbar on Sunday visited wheat procurement centres in Tandlianwala and Samundari. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal, Food Department Deputy Director Anjum Sardar and District Food Controller Amanullah accompanied the secretary.


Akbar reviewed the wheat procurement process. He urged the centres’ officials to provide better services to farmers. He said wheat should be procured in a transparent manner. He met farmers and sought their comments about wheat procurement arrangements made by the Food Department. He said they would be guided and helped by the officials. The secretary said the government had been monitoring the wheat procurement campaign. He said appropriate measures were taken on the feedback of farmers. A Food Department officer told Akbar that 11 procurement centres in the Faisalabad region had been tasked with purchasing of 132,000 metric tonnes of wheat. Mengal said management committees at the procurement centers had been helping farmers. He said district government officials were also monitoring the procurement drive.
