A man and his two sons were allegedly gunned down by their family members on Sunday over the appointment of a cleric in the neighbourhood mosque in Janabad.
A police official said around 10:30am, Pir Syed reached the police station in an injured condition, reporting an attack on his family.
He said his father Abdullah appointed a cleric at the local mosque but his uncle’s sons Sami Rahman and Fazal Ahad opposed the decision. According to Syed, the two accused had barged into Abdullah’s house, dragged the residents out on Nissat Road and opened fire at them.
Abdullah, his son Syed and a passerby identified as Manjawar Khan were severely injured while Abdullah’s youngest son Waqas was killed on the spot. The official added the accused fled after the incident while locals shifted the injured to Mardan Medical Complex where Abdullah, and later, Pir, succumbed to their injuries.
A case was filed against the accused and further investigation is under way, said the official.
