Labour rights: EU delegation calls on chief minister

They discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations and the South Asia Labour Conference.

A delegation led by Ambassador of European Union Lars Gunnar Wigemark met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday. Lars Gunnar Wigemark met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday.


They discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations and the South Asia Labour Conference.

The chief minister said the first South Asia Labour Conference in Lahore was important for the welfare of labourers and the protection of their rights.

He said the GSP Plus status for Pakistan would lead to a substantial increase in textile exports.


He said the government was going to set up a state-of-the-art Quaid-i-Azam Apparel Park near the motorway.


Lars Gunnar congratulated Sharif on the success of the labour conference and said that the Punjab government was taking commendable steps for the protection of labourers’ rights.
