Karachi facing up to 12 hours of loadshedding
The Karachi Electric Supply Company claims the frequent blacks outs are due to insufficient gas supplies.
KARACHI:
Karachi is undergoing load-shedding for up to 12 hours these days, causing severe hardships for its citizens.
The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) claims the frequent blacks outs are due to insufficient gas supplies.
KESC Spokesperson Ayesha Erabie, talking to Express 24/7, said that the gas supply to KESC from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been "really erratic."
She said that KESC's allocated quota for gas is 276 MMCFD, while they received only 190 MMCFD last year and right now 75 per cent of their supply has been cut.
Urban areas are facing 10 hours of power cuts while industrial areas are going 12 hours without electricity.
Meanwhile, SSGC has warned industrialists of a potential gas crisis, if the gas is not consumed cautiously.
