CHAMAN:
Five people, including a member of the Frontier Corps (FC), were injured when a motorcycle bomb detonated in Kandahari Bazaar on Mall Road, Chaman on Tuesday.
The township shares a border with Afghanistan.
It was the second bombing during the past 24 hours in Chaman. “The explosive device was fitted to a motorbike parked beside the road. Unknown miscreants detonated the explosives by a remote control as the FC vehicle passed by the area,” police officer Mohammed Ashraf, told The Express Tribune.
Four passers-by and a man of FC sustained injuries in the blast. The blast was heard in the entire Chaman Town. Police and security forces reached the spot soon after the blast and threw a cordon in the area for collecting evidence from the crime scene. The injured were shifted to the nearby Civil Hospital, where four of the injured are stated to be out of danger while one is in critical condition. A state of emergence was declared at the hospital after the blast.
“Five people sustained multiple splinter wounds and four are out of danger,” Mohammed Ashraf said. A car was also damaged in the blast. “FC man sustained minor injuries and is completely stable,” he added.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad, more than two kilograms of explosive materials were used in the explosion. The Kandahari Bazaar is one of the most crowded areas in Chaman where hundreds of shops are located.
