Korea asked to employ more Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD:
South Korea could make a significant contribution to reducing unemployment, alleviating poverty and strengthening Pakistan’s economy by importing “maximum manpower from Pakistan.”

Zahid Maqbool, the President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), stated this while exchanging views with Jeong Jae Seo, Director Pakistan Chapter of Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) during a meeting here.

He said that enhanced cooperation in manpower supply would produce positive results for both countries as Korea was faced with the problem of shrinking manpower due to aging population while Pakistan was endowed with plenty of highly young talent which could become a huge asset for Korea with proper training and skills development.

He said that Pakistani technical manpower in different fields including electricians, welders, plumbers, shuttering carpenters, painters and quality surveyors had already made their mark in the Gulf region and many other foreign countries and Korea should take benefit from their services by enhancing quota of their import from Pakistan.

Maqbool said that as a result of global financial turmoil, a large number of Pakistani trained workers have returned from Dubai and Korea should explore the possibility of utilising their expertise by offering them employment opportunities.

He said that Pakistani industries also needed more professionals and skilled workers and stressed that HRD Korea should open its offices in every province of Pakistan for providing vocational training and technical education to the youth.

Jeong Jae Seo said that his organisation had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Labour and Manpower of Pakistan for import of more workers.

He said that HRD was also teaching Korean language to Pakistanis and issuing them certificates so that they could improve their prospects for employment in Korea and could become more productive workers. He said HRD Korea was striving to act as a leader in managing and developing human resource. It was also supporting SMEs by arranging different training and skills development programmes for their workers along with conducting qualification testing to provide trained manpower across a variety of fields
