IPL: Maxwell, Miller power Punjab to win
Fifties by batsmen lead team to win over Rajasthan.
Swashbuckling Australian Glenn Maxwell is happy with his belligerent form for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League this season.
Maxwell struck a 45-ball 89 while chasing Rajasthan Royals’ 192-run target and claimed that a permanent slot in the playing eleven has helped him immensely.
“I would not call it a payback [for sitting on the bench at Mumbai Indians last season],” said Maxwell. “Mumbai had a pretty good side last year. I had to bide my time.
“It worries me more that I was not there at the end to hit the winning runs. That was a job half finished.”
However, Punjab were hardly bothered about his dismissal as South Africa batsman David Miller thrashed an unbeaten 19-ball 51 to take his team past the target with a loss of three wickets.
Earlier, Rajasthan scored 191 in the allotted 20 overs after Punjab skipper George Bailey asked them to bat on a flat Sharjah wicket.
Sanju Samson and all-rounder Shane Watson scored half-centuries to take their team to a total that turned out fairly inadequate at the end.
