The secretary also stated that at least 28 honour killing cases have been reported in 2014 thus far.
He added that the incidence of honour killing in interior Sindh is continuously rising because of the jirga system that exists in all districts of the rural parts of the province.
“The weakness of the legal system and the encouragement of the jirga system in rural areas are both responsible for the rise in the murder of women in the name of honour,” the secretary informed.
He assured that to prevent violence against women, special cells were functioning in all districts of Sindh, encouraging civil society to join the cells and report such cases.
He said that to create awareness, special seminars about the issue are also organised from time to time for the general public.
The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights Chairperson Senator Afrasiab Khattak expressed serious concerns about the rising number of women killed in the name of honour.
He directed the provincial government to take effective steps to discourage the act.

and what about statistics in Punjab ??
@Mirza - This is yet another ignominious record for not just Sindh but for Pakistan.- this is another ignoramus statement what difference does it make what part of Pakistan or what province we always need to play the blame game so our Pakistani conscious or there lack of can blame it on stubborn and defensive attitude and ancient traditions? . No one can o split the country into good and not so good areas we can easily question as why the people allow this horrendous act to continue in their presence?
This is yet another ignominious record for not just Sindh but for Pakistan. What a shame that some are spitting venom against Sindh. However, the situation in the rest of Pakistan is no better. Except in some large cities and educated areas the plight of women is the same in all the country and it is not going to change soon with our stubborn and defensive attitude and ancient traditions. Even in the comments instead of dealing with the problem some are trying to split the country into good and not so good areas.
The honour killings in Sindh is a BLACK stain on the entire country of Pakistan, The negative backlash that Shareen Obaid Chinoy when she made a simple film of "Saving Faces" to show the plight of women who suffer in a male dominated and oriented society. People were critical of Sharmeen Chinoy becuase they did not want the dirty laundry of Pakistan's social injustice to be displayed to the world. The point of the matter is that such cases would not be the subject matter did NOT exist. But they do and the whole world paid attention to it and rewareded Miss Chinoy with an Academy Award/ The number 202 is too great a number to ignore, and the citizens of Pakistan must work towards the education of the public & the elimination jirga system The usual delayed response of Pakistanis is to inform the civil societies to to join the cells and report such cases. This tepid reaction is typical of a society that is too lazy to spring into action and defensive when social ills are bought to their attention
If the former Cheap Justice had done even an iota of effort to reform the judicial system and punishing these culprits rather than playing media ratings and politics day and night these women may have lived.
The utter failure of legal system is encouraging medieval jirgas, panchayats and other forms of non-arbitrations where the helpless individuals are made to pay for non-crimes or crimes they didn't commit!
That makes Sindh the most honorable province in the country then....
oh where is super man of sindh ?
Disgusting...!!!!
These atrocities cannot be stopped unless the government takes firm action. Action that is not only limited against the perpetrators, who should obviously receive applicable sentences in a court of law, but also includes preventative measures. These killings will go on unless the age old mentality and mind set of our people is not changed. They need to receive modem day education. One that doesn't just 'preach' right and wrong but also covers the equality of sexes and how men and women compliment each other in society. This, along with countless other lessons that we fail to understand, can only be taught to our society en masse in the form of comprehensive educational reforms.
Sindh back in stone-age!
As long as the influential waderas, landlords, politicians of the area conduct these jirgas, these killings will continue to flourish. The Sindh government should resign.
