KARACHI: The chief of the Muhajir Sooba Tehreek (MST) was severely injured in a targeted attack near Jauhar Morr within the limits of Sharahe Faisal police station late on Saturday night.

Dr Saleem Haider was shot multiple times when he was heading home in his car on Rashid Minhas Road.

After his armed attackers managed to flee from the scene, Dr Haider was rushed to the Aga Khan University Hospital with multiple bullet wounds in a critical state of health.

Sharahe Faisal SP Ali Asif said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle had participated in the attack, adding that the case was being investigated and nothing could be said about a motive till investigations were completed. No case has been registered.

MST spokesperson Rashid Qureshi condemned the attack. He told The Express Tribune that Dr Haider was also the founder of the Muhajir Ittehad Tehreek. Qureshi believed that those who had targeted the groups leader had done so after proper planning. He demanded that the culprits be arrested and brought to justice.

Dr Haider was shot thrice, and while doctors termed his condition out of danger, he was still under treatment at the time of filing this report.
