Lord Nazir stresses the need for an efficient tax system

The British Parliament member has stressed the need for a long term plan for socio-economic development in Pakistan.

LAHORE:
Lord Nazir Ahmad, a member of the British Parliament, has stressed the need for chalking out a long term plan for socio-economic development in Pakistan.

He said that the government should seize the undeclared assets and distribute them among the less privileged people of the country. He also said that heavy taxes should be imposed on the rich. The government should also ensure that they are paying Zakat regularly. He felt that Pakistan would lose credibility internationally as a poor country in need of aid if do not pay taxes and hide their wealth in foreign banks.

He said that the federal interior minister has signed an agreement with the British home secretary for exchange of prisoners and illegal immigrants.

They should have, instead, signed a bilateral trade agreement that would benefit Pakistan, Lord Nazir said.

He also spoke on the role of the youth of the country, stressing that they should develop the habit of honest hard work for the good of the country.

Quoting from a world report, he said they ranked at the bottom of the list of successful women in the world and efforts should be made to include them in all decision making processes.
