Uncertainty in G-B: AAC leaders to decide fate of strikes
Chief Minister Mehdi Shah assures them of agreeing to their demands.
GILGIT:
A meeting among leaders of the Awami Action Committee (AAC) to decide the future course of their strike was under way late into the night on Wednesday following a meeting with Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Chief Minister Mehdi Shah who assured them of agreeing to their demands. “We will decide the fate of our strikes in a meeting which is due shortly,” said AAC Chairman Ehsan Ali, soon after meeting the CM at his office. Headed by Ali, a four-member AAC delegation met Shah on his request to negotiate their demands. “The CM has assured us that two of our demands, including the curtailment of load-shedding, will be met within a week, while fees at government hospitals will also be waived completely. But we are mainly concerned with revival of G-B’s wheat subsidy,” Ali told The Express Tribune. Various parts of the region have been witnessing protests and strikes since Tuesday on AAC’s call.
