KARACHI:
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) asked Senator Faisal Raza Abidi to resign from his seat, Express News reported on Wednesday.

The request was brought forward by the party's secretary general, Pervez Ashraf.

It was reported that this decision was taken after tensions arose between Abidi and the party.

Last week, during a meeting with the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, Senator Rehman Malik and Abidi verbally sparred with each other, after which Malik threatened to stage a walkout from the meeting if Abidi insisted on shouting and did not permit him to speak.

Abidi, had previously resigned from the PPP Karachi division presidency following an internal party rift in 2012.

Despite having influence in Karachi and holding a senate seat on the PPP ticket, he had been sidelined from much of the party’s decision making, having been shut out of the central executive committee.
