Financial management: MFA asked to streamline use of fund
Committee informed that foreign ministry officers drew daily allowance of Rs1.739m without submitting hotel receipts.
ISLAMABAD:
The subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to streamline its funds utilisation process through a vibrant internal financial management. Shafqat Mehmood, the convener of the subcommittee, said the ministry had to deal with issues of foreign travels, incurring daily allowances and involving other financial matters, so it should have a vibrant central financial mechanism to settle financial anomalies. The committee was informed that foreign ministry officers, contrary to rules, drew daily allowance of Rs1.739 million without submitting hotel receipts. The committee expressed dismay over apathy towards recoveries, saying presently the pace of recovery process was too slow and a complete report entailing details of outstanding dues and indicating criminal misappropriation, if any, be submitted to the committee within one month.
