Going green: Medical college to get 200,000 trees

Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Argentina says trees would be planted under the Green Multan project.

MULTAN: Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Argentina to Pakistan Rodolfo Martin Saravia on Tuesday said 200,000 trees would be planted at Nishtar Medical Institute (NMI) under the Green Multan project.

He was talking to newsmen after a briefing at the Committee Room of the NMI.

He said Green Nishtar was a pilot project under the Green Multan project launched by the envoy at Nishtar Medical College by planting ficus retuse. He said they would continue the campaign in the city to give the city a ‘green look’.

He said it was important to invest in eco-friendly programmes.

He said the hospital cared for about 2,000 patients daily and had a campus for education of doctors and nurses attached to it. He said it was important for the facility to be green.

Earlier, briefing the envoy, Principal NMI Dr Samee Akhtar said that they were honoured to have first tree plantation campaign at the campus.

Established in 1951, he said the NMI was among several beautiful campuses in Pakistan.

He said 47,000 surgeries had been conducted at the hospital last year and 1,630 MBBS students were being trained at the institute.
