KARACHI:

As winter fades and we prepare ourselves for the sharp sting of the summer sun; spring brings a period of brief perfection. And with the promise of spring comes the inevitable barrage of fashion. Driving around the city, there are billboards and banners and streamers on every building and lamppost, adorned with images of beautiful models, draped in kurtas and dupattas. Yes, it’s that time of the year again! Lawn fever has hit the cities. With so many options — a literal myriad of designers and brands — and a thousand launches, exclusive exhibitions, and previews, how does one stand out from the madding crowd? Indeed, one could be excused for thinking that they had absorbed all that a person possibly can.

This season, Deepak Perwani has joined hands with Zeniya Lawn, to introduce Zeniya by Deepak Perwani. And the result has rendered us lucky enough to preview the collection, truly speechless. Incredible prints, with beautiful embroidery and delicate motifs, combined with amazing design aesthetics; the collection offers a wide range of choices. The lawn is fine and is bound to make you feel luxuriously comfortable throughout the summer season.

The prints vary from traditional to modern, ethnic to classic, contemporary to heritage designs. They are mixed beautifully with hues of yellow, amber, red, pinks, and pastels to celebrate the arrival of spring and the onset of summer. When asked what inspired these designs and motifs, Deepak said: “Zeniya Lawn is made for the modern woman. This is a woman who knows herself. She’s a woman who wants to experiment and try out new things. She is a woman who not only appreciates contemporary cuts, but also loves ethnic and traditional designs. She is daring and brave.”

And this inspiration definitely calls out from the collection. The Spring/Summer 2014 collection has 13 designs — each of them embellishing a different motif; one could even say an entirely different aspect of what Deepak calls the Zeniya by Deepak Perwani woman. There’s a mix of fresh prints and colours with chiffon dupattas. Throughout the collection, Deepak’s unique design aesthetic sings through — these designs are the ultimate expression of minimalism, yet the embellishments continue to actively express a sense of culture and heritage. Deepak uses colours in a clever way, allowing various hues to bring out the beauty of each design. Each cut mirrors the latest fashion trends, ranging from trendy short tunics to long straight A-line shirts. Moreover, almost all the prints come with embroidered shirts with simple intricate embroideries.

The lawn will be launching officially at the Zeniya flagship store on April 19. Whether you’re into florals, geometrical designs or paisleys, this collection has a wide variety for you to choose from.
